Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs)
Eating Disorder Treatment at PCSG also features an intensive outpatient program for groups of 6-12 participants.
The program, hosted at our medical center in Ajax, Ontario, provides a full-day support, several times per week for medically stable individuals who require more services than provided by general outpatient programs, but less intensity than hospitalization or traditional inpatient or residential programs.
PCSG’s intensive outpatient programs centre around psychologist and psychotherapist-led individual and group-lead therapy supported medical, dietary, family and school support.
The Intensive program’s approaches are similar to the general outpatient program, except that they are delivered for full days, several times a week, with meal support and medical, psychological and dietician support on site for participants.
Adolescent Anorexia Nervosa IOP
Are you 13-15 years old and struggling with food, weight or body image? You are not alone. Eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa are both common and serious. Newly-diagnosed anorexia nervosa cases in Canadian adolescents 9 to 18 years old increased nearly 60% during the pandemic, and cases requiring hospitalization nearly tripled.*
PCSG’s Intensive Outpatient Program for Adolescent Anorexia Nervosa is dedicated to healing harmful relationships with food and helping youth see themselves beyond their eating disorder.
Our multidisciplinary team of psychologists, psychotherapists and dieticians work hands on with clients to meet recovery goals, providing individual counselling, group therapy, meal support, nutritional rehabilitation and family support.
Our 6-week intensive program features group and individual therapy with full-day, 3x/week meetings for individuals 13 to 15 years of age. Parental participation is required.
What Should I Expect?
Helping you or your loved one recover from an eating disorder will take a lot of work. Treatment depends on a variety of factors, such as the type and severity of the eating disorder, and the client’s age, family situation, relationships, mental health, physical condition and social issues.
The level of care needs to complement the general goals for treatment, typically to help the person medically stabilize, reduce disordered eating behavior, and address any coexisting psychological or relational difficulties.
PCSG begins by determining best treatment with a thorough initial assessment by a member of our Eating Disorders team and works collaboratively with medical professionals to monitor physical well-being from the outset of treatment to follow-up. If you or your loved one already work with a psychiatrist for treatment, we will co-ordinate care with them as well.
A Note on Fees
PCSG’s Eating Disorder services do not require a referral from a doctor, school, or therapist. Psychological and Counselling Services are not covered by OHIP, but are often covered by most extended insurance plans and some Employee Assistance Plans (EAP).
